Precision Couplings
A core value of couplings is compensating shaft misalignment — understanding the three types is the prerequisite to selection.
Angular: the two shafts meet at an angle; parallel (radial): shafts are parallel but not coaxial; axial: the end-face distance varies. In practice all three often coexist.
Single diaphragm suits well-aligned setups (angular ≤1°, parallel ≤0.9 mm); long diaphragm compensates more (angular 0.12–0.6°, parallel to 1.3 mm); jaw parallel to 1.0 mm.
Exceeding limits causes early diaphragm or spider fatigue, extra radial load on bearings, more vibration, and shorter life. Align shafts as closely as possible.
